Illinois Turner Camp

During any camp organized activity, the staff is going to enforce the rules for misconduct, including, but not limited to, the following: using violence, force, noise, profanity/obscenity, coercion, threats, intimidation, fear, bullying, or other comparable conduct toward anyone or urging other campers to engage in such conduct.

Behavior Management Plan

Effective discipline has two purposes: to encourage self-esteem, self-control and responsibility; and to discourage irresponsibility and inappropriate behavior. To be effective, discipline must be a part of a positive, respectful relationship between adult and child. While children cannot assume the same rights and responsibilities as adults, they can be treated as equals in terms of worth and respect. Discipline is not only stopping children from doing wrong; it’s helping them to do right. The most effective way to discipline is to prevent problems from arising in the first place.

Rules are more likely to be followed if they are:

Consistent - don’t change every day

Explicit - are clearly defined and understood by the child

Predictable - are known ahead of time

Upheld - there is follow-through with a consequence when a rule is broken

When children are anxious, they often become agitated and behave inappropriately. As they gain a sense of security from knowing what to expect, their anxiety decreases which in turn reduces inappropriate behavior.

Three Strike Policy

Illinois Turner Camp has implemented a three-strike behavior policy. The first infraction of the behavior management plan will result in a verbal warning. The second infraction will result in time-out or loss of privilege. The third infraction will result in loss of privilege and notification of the parent(s) at the end of the camp day. Two three-strike days will result in a conference involving the counselor, the Camp director, a member of the ITC Youth Committee, the camper, and his or her parent(s). Three three-strike days will result in a one-day suspension from the camp program. Four or more three-strike days could result in further suspension or dismissal from the program. Serious infractions will be handled on a case by case basis.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Illinois Turner Camp has a zero tolerance policy in regards to physical aggression. Any camper who commits an act of physical aggression against another camper, staff member, or parent will be immediately dismissed and be escorted to his or her cottage by a member of the Camp staff. The camper may be reinstated after a conference with staff, Youth Committee, and the child’s parent(s).

  • First offense: Camper(s) will be asked to sit out for the remainder of the activity.

  • Second offense: Camper(s) will be escorted back to their cottage for the remainder of the activity or the rest of the camp day.

  • Third offense: Camper(s) will meet with the Director and the Youth Committee to discuss the matter

If you have any questions please feel free to ask Director or your Youth Committee

We do ask if you have anything to discuss with the staff please wait until appropriate working hours and please do not talk to life guards while on duty. Life guards need to have all eyes on the pool. Safety is our number one concern.
