Junior Penny Social – Thank you Jody Boreck, Tom Web and Robin Posnanski all of their hard work to make things happen in 3 weeks.  A special thanks to the Reuter Family for all of their Home Depot donations. We love you and so does Home Depot . Fun was had by all what a GREAT evening.
Founders Day - Thank you to all volunteers for making our day so nice. Without
all of you this activity, as well as others in Camp, would not be possible.  “It takes a village!” I appreciate all time and efforts. Thank you so much. Barbie Zweifel

Recycling Program - We would like to update everyone on some activities regarding the recycling program. First of all, thanks to all you for participating in this very beneficial program. It's great for the environment, the correct civic responsibility and it's the right thing to do for our children. And when you get down to the basics, Illinois Turner Camp is a children's camp. That's why it's here, and why we are here.Having said that, some clarifications for all everyone. There are two 6 yard dumpsters in camp for recycling. One is in the big parking lot, the other behind the Rathskeller. These are clearly marked as recycling cans and obviously only for recycling. These are single stream cans meaning all recyclables can be put in the cans, no separating needed.
Follow the same guidelines as you would with your home recycling. Please no glass, except bottles, styrofoam, wet cardboard or pizza boxes in these cans.Plastic, paper or cardboard( not wet) glass bottles, cans and any other acceptable recyclables are ok.We continue tohave blue 55 gallon drums spread throughout camp. They are still only to be used for cans, not any other recyclables or refuse. In the Rathskeller are garbage cans marked cans only. Since we are now serving some beers in bottles, it is OK to put those bottles in those marked garbage cans. That will eliminate those bottles being thrown into the garbage, and get them recycled also. Again thanks for everyone's help on this effort. It's made our beautiful little place better for all of us. Thank you, Buildings and Grounds

Recycling - IMPORTANT UPDATE We now have new recycling cans inside the Rathskeller and on the patio.  These cans are blue, two inside the Raths, one outside. These are designed to accept both cans and bottles. PLEASE use these containers appropriately. Do not not put cans and bottles in the refuse cans any longer. We all appreciate everyone's participation in this matter. Thanks, Buildings and grounds

Founders Day Thank you!! Organizing and coordinating a program such as this past weekend’s Founder’s Day Celebration, requires time, effort and commitment.  Speaking for all of us who enjoyed the day, we would like to thank Barbie Zweifel for coordinating this years events and getting us all together for this wonderful celebration.  We would also be remiss if we didn’t mention Roy Fenton for getting Founder’s Day back on the map after it had fallen off many of our calendars.  Thank you once again for helping all of us keep “Turnerism” in Turner Camp.  Thank you Cory Litza

Work Duties – the three work duties that each cottage is assigned to are an important way of keeping Camp operations humming along and help keep Camp an affordable experience.  However the cottage work duties are just a part of the picture.  The Raths Restaurant & Bar, Candy Store, and Pool are all coordinated by a core group of volunteers who give a significant amount of time beyond the typical three duties.  When someone no shows for a duty, it often falls onto the shoulders of the core group to pick up the slack.  This isn’t fair to them and was happening too frequently.  Consequently the Council raised the duty no show fine from $100/missed duty to $250/missed duty.  It’s not about the money.  We need people to show up for their duties or make arrangements for someone else to show up.  Plain and simple.
Bathrooms – please DO NOT dump your chemical toilet tanks into a toilet in one of the bathrooms!!!  Center Camp was totally clogged and had to be closed until a power rodder was rented and the clog removed.  You can dump your tanks directly into the septic fields at the Center Camp (Weber or Green) Bathroom and the Cicero Bathroom near where the old outhouses used to be by those facilities.

Can't wait to see our campers perform in tomorrow night's water show, "Christmas in July".  Admission gate opens at 5:30pm and the show starts at 6:00pm.  HO HO HO...Merry Christmas, everyone!

Next week during program hours, 9 and under campers will have the opportunity to sleep out under the shelter Wednesday, July 19!  Tents are permitted, but not necessary.  In order to attend the sleep out, 9 and under campers should show their Turner spirit in costume at Wednesday evening's campfire.

A special thanks to Bret Dorn's pig roasting team for an amazing meal last weekend at Family Fest. Bret's cooking team included his brother Keith, nephew Ryan Mostyn and good friend Adam Koester.  Frank and Barb Dorn and Shirley Macfarlane offered great support and supervision of the roast as well. A huge shout out to Youth Committee members for initiating this new Turner Camp event.  Nicole Gebhardt's photography captured the fun and excitement. Be sure to visit her link to see the fun for yourself!  A special thanks to the Litza Family; Ann, Barbie, Curt, Donna, Cory, and Mathew for their various contributions throughout the day. We couldn't have done it without you. A special mention to our face painters, Jenny Scott, Brian Vinson, and Lesley DeRusha...wow, what talent!  Another thank you to Karen Swanson, Barb Wurster, Tina Odachoswki, Kevin Dahm, and JR Barts for for helping out with beverage sales.  Let's not forget Maggie and Gary Derusha for assisting with food sales, Andy Kline for his "amazing" magic, and all of the generous raffle basket donors. We are so appreciative of your love and support for Illinois Turner Camp youth events.  If your name is not personally mentioned, please know you are thanked and appreciated for your volunteer efforts...we truly could not have done it without you. We're looking forward to Family Fest 2018...see you all there! Thank you Youth Committee
