Cannabis Policy



Illinois HB 1438 Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act:

  • June 25, 2019 Governor Pritzker signed into law House Bill 1438

  • HB 1438 legalizes the statewide consumption of marijuana for nonmedicinal purposes

  • January 1, 2020 HB 1438 officially went into effect

  • The law permits adults, age 21 and older to possess up to 30 grams of marijuana and to smoke in one’s own private home or on-site in some cannabis-related businesses

  • The law states that ANY person, business, or landlord can prohibit use of marijuana on private property

  • Illinois Colleges and Universities reserve the right to ban marijuana use on campus

Illinois Law states that Marijuana Use is Prohibited:

  • In ANY Public Place; such as streets or parks

  • In ANY Motor Vehicle, while Driving a Boat, or Flying a Plane

  • On School Grounds, with the exception of medicinal use

  • Near Someone Under the Age of 21

  • Near an On-Duty School Bus Driver, Police Officer, Firefighter, or Correction Officer

Use of Marijuana at Illinois Turner Camp:

  • The Camp Committee and the Illinois District Council have concurred that based on the change in the legislation, effective January 1, 2020 Nonmedicinal Marijuana use will be permitted at Illinois Turner Camp by members age 21 and older. However, use of Marijuana and Cannabis Products is EXPLICITLY RESTRICTED to inside

the cottages and NOT PERMITTED anywhere else in Turner Camp.
