YOUTH - Program this week was a thrilling and fantastic week. Sport of the week consisted of Football! All kids learned how to properly run routes and learn new techniques with their foot work! On Friday, we had our annual Staff vs. Campers football game. STAFF WON!! We also had a camper that had the chance to become a Counselor for the day! Campers of the week were Amelia Wilson, Weston Becker, Quinn Sandine, and Aydan Moore.

Week 5 at the pool went great! We did lots of testing to move people up in swim groups since last week was Watershow week. Watershow was amazing! The kids showed off their swimming skills wonderfully. Thank you to anyone who chipped in any amount of help to allow the show to run so smoothly. We are particularly impressed with the campers’ efforts towards 25-Mile-Swim this summer! Many campers have a mile or more now. Keep up the great swimming! Swimmers of the Week were Brynn Raymaker, Otto Jacobs, Zoe Graham, and Nathan Moore. The Royal Court of 2024 consisted of Aydan Moore, Kylee Maddox, Daniel Buckley, Delaney Flowers, JD Hamontree, and Nora Oatey! Congratulations!

PENNY SOCIAL – Thank you to all who donated and who attended the Penny Social this year.  As always, a great turn out and we made $1778 which will be given to the pool for maintenance.  Thank you, Chris, Barb and The Penny Social Team

CAMP COMMITTEE -A very busy weekend is coming up - Friday night is Penny Social, Saturday is Volleyball tournament and Ladies Auxiliary Card Party and Sunday is the Baers Birthday party and election of officers at the Baren Hohle.  Check your calendar or this flyer for times and places.  We look forward to seeing you at the many events this weekend.    We have had unusual storms this past week and as a result many branches and trees are down.  Buildings and Grounds are working their way around Camp to collect the debris.  If you could assist by collecting the branches around your cottage that would be a great help.  Bring those branches to the burn pits or to an access road near your cottage and B&G will collect them.  We will also need to light the burn pits.  We apologize in advance of any inconvenience this may cause but our options are limited with the amount of debris we have.  There are new signs up around the Raths stating "No Outside food or drink permitted".  While we all enjoy our time at our cottages, and certainly support time with friends and family, we can't bring outside food or drinks into the Raths, unless it's part of an approved event.  We have a liquor license for the Raths and like most restaurants and bars, it does not include bringing in outside drinks.  We don't want to do anything to jeopardize our license and the county can come in at any time for an unannounced inspection.  Please help us out by finishing your drinks and meals at your cottages.  Thank you.

Kitchen  - Sunday August 4th Pork Tenderloin dinner is cancelled.  Instead, the kitchen and Raths will be open at 5:00 for pizza, grill and a special sandwich by Jenny and the family.

YOUTH -Week Two of Program went great! The sport of the week was Court Sports and we also had Rock Concert this week. The campers were attentive while practicing serves and receives in tennis and pickleball, and the occasional spiking in nitroball. Our 11 Rock Concert groups came up with creative dances that no Turner has ever seen before. The Campfire theme was Career Day and it was so interesting to see what the campers want to be when they grow up. By looking at the costumes, we have no doubts in our minds that all campers have bright futures. The Campers of the Week were Hope Dussman, JJ Mahon, Colton Koester, and Frankie Bialk. The Gymnasts of the Week were Brandon Pucinski and Sophie Graham. Aurora Peterson and Kylie Kilgore were our Golden Ticket winners this week for going above and beyond our expectations.  At the pool, we had chillier weather than last week, but still just as much fun! Twenty-Five Mile Swim went amazing on Wednesday. So many campers got to a mile, or even two, on only the second week! Campers played new pool games such as Cat & Dog and Ivis-Bottle, which I’m sure your campers would love to tell you about!

Swimmers of the Week were Johnny Creevy for Beginners, Kylie Kilgore for Advanced Beginners, Sebastian Muntaner for Intermediates, Brandon Pucinski for Swimmers, and Declan DeRusha for Advanced Swimmers. We are so happy to see so many smiling faces at the pool this summer!

CAMP COMMITTEE – Hello from the Camp Committee who are up North at the Turnfest.

RESTARUANT -Don't miss Laurie VanDahm's Friday Fish Fry special Pulled Pork Tenderloin.  On Saturday we have the regular grill.  Next week is Pam Lau's Sauerbraten w/mashed potatoes special.  It's the real deal she's been serving for years.  Tom Webb is serving up bacon cheeseburgers after the Final Show.  Lots of good eats yet to come!

This week's spotlight is on Randy Gunderson.  In three (maybe four) short year's he's worked his way up from apprentice Fry man to journeyman Fry man.  His FFFWA (Friday Fish Fry Workers of Algonquin) union steward Timmy Zbinden says he's one of the fastest learners he's ever seen.  Randy is married to Karin Gunderson who's been one of our Candy Store coordinators for years with Donna Sawicki.  Randy is a big a huge Dead & Company fan and just recently took a night off (thank Bobby Collins for filling in!) to head to San Francisco for a bunch of shows.  Randy is coincidentally a big fan of the local dispensaries.  Jerry Garcia's fans don't fall far from the tree!  Thanks Randy!

CAMP COMMITTEE - we are rapidly moving through our Turner Camp Youth program with only a few weeks left.  We want to thank all of the volunteers who have participated so far in making this a terrific season, not only for the Youth and Tiny Tots but for Camp as a whole.  But the work is not done - we have the Final Show on 8/5 and it requires many volunteers to set up and tear down the event.  We will be setting up an on-line volunteer tool that you will be able to log into and submit your information.  If you have children who have been enjoying their time in the program this Summer, this is a great opportunity to help support them and their experiences.  We will communicate the on-line sign-up tool specifics in the next Bulletin.  Please check the bulletin and your Camp Calendar as this weekend brings; Penny Social, 4 Person Volleyball Tournament, Ladies Auxiliary Card Party, New/Existing Cottage Owners Meeting and Baers Birthday Party - a full weekend for certain.  See you around Camp,   Camp Committee

RESTARUANT - The hits just keep on coming!  The Friday Fish Fry special is Kurt Zitta's Goulash (could be Hungarian, who knows?).  On Saturday Tom Webb (the ringer) is bring us his King Ranch Chicken (who was King, and what was on his ranch?).  Next week's Friday Fish fry Special is Laurie VanDahm's Pulled Pork tenderloin.  We appreciate when folks step up and do a special as it makes it eaiser on the Restaurant crew.  If you have something you'd like to share with your fellow campers, let me know! (Scott Lau This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
This week's spotlight is on Randy Roe.  He's the 3rd longest serving Fish Fry crew member.  His mom is Val Roe who served on council and was the District Secretary in the early 2000s.  Randy has served on council for years and most recently piloted Aurora Turners through the pandemic.  Which is no small feat!  He's our senior Fry guy and has taught Randy Gunderson (more on him next week) everything he knows.  Thanks Randy!

SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL - Bring your cowboy hats and wear your boots. Come have a taste of the southwest this Saturday night. Tom and the crew are serving up a Texas favorite, King Ranch chicken casserole. The king Ranch is the largest ranch in Texas sitting at 825,000 acres. No it is not the four sixes ranch that’s on Yellowstone, that’s Hollywood, although that is a real ranch and is very large also. Come on, it’s Texas!! King Ranch chicken is one of the fixings they serve up to their hundreds of cowboys to help them keep raglan those cattle and they love it. So come on down to the Rathskeller ranch and get your fill y’all!!

The first half of Summer has flown by and these Campers are just getting to the good stuff! This past week we had Tiny Tot Day on Monday where the 5 year olds from the Tiny Tot Program came up for an hour to experience what it's like to be one of the big kids for the day! Our Mystery Morning this week was a game of Clue in which campers were in 4 teams and had to run around camp finding clues to find the missing staff member! Later that night at Awards we had our "Turners Got Talent!" Talent Show and the campers did not disappoint, so many great acts! We want to thank everyone again for their unwavering support, us Staff truly appreciate the support system we have at the place we call home, ITC!

ILLINOIS DISTRICT LADIES CARD PARTY - The District Auxiliary thanks all that donated and supported the Ladies Card Party.  The receipts were $1,700.  This will help with the general upkeep of the building.  Thanks again! Ann

POSTURE FITNESS - Sarah Shiller is teaching Posture Fitness classes again this summer. The class members decided on classes at 8am M-F with the occasional Saturday thrown in.
This class is not just about sitting up straight! The Egoscue Method is practiced by all kinds of people with all kinds of bodies: Professional and amateur athletes who want to perform better, anyone recovering from an injury or wanting to avoid injury, seniors who want to become more independent and/or hold on to their independence, moms and dads who carry their kids around, and anyone who wants to look and feel better. Sarah works with anyone who wants to participate.
This week we are focusing on correcting dysfunction in the thoracic back (upper back and shoulders); next week we will be working on the low back. Regardless of the focus of a class, all participants can benefit from this whole-body therapy.
Don't wait until the season is over to join! Classes are a DEEPLY discounted $15/week only for Turners (an incredible deal for therapy that normally costs more than $125 per hour) and 100% of the proceeds are donated back to camp to make Turner Camp even better. What are you waiting for?

POSTURE FITNESS THANK YOU!!! –  Sarah for all your dedication to fitness.  I have received a few emails about how great your class has been.  I would like to share them with you and all of Turner Camp.  Thanks again!!!  Chris Mostyn

From Sue Muntaner - This class is life changing. Whether you are 20 or 80, all bodies have some dysfunction and Sarah’s class shows you how to fix it. The question isn’t why go, but why haven’t you? I guarantee you’ll ask yourself the same question after one class.

From Andy Warren – Feel more at ease in your body. Small corrections make a difference in body alignment and can alleviate pain.  Pain-free movement will help with all sports and activities.  Not just for women only.

From Mindy Sharp -  I would like to express my appreciation to Sarah Shiller for teaching her pain-free Egoscue classes every weekday.  I hope others will join us – if not this year, then next year.  Everyone young and old, any body type will feel immediate benefit from  these gentle stretches. All money from these classes go back to camp. Thank you, Sarah, for your time and effort you have dedicated to us.

From Sterling - I am in my 20’s, athletic, and I have taken ballet my entire life. I sit at a computer all day, which can cause some discomfort. After one class, I could feel the difference. Why wait to fix the problem, when you can learn to fix it now before it is a huge issue.

Big Turner Beer Stein Sale - Don't forget the Big Beer Stein Sale next weekend at the Raths on Friday & Saturday evening (July 29th & 30th).Thanks, Marianne Markus

CANDY STORE - For the last several years, Donna Sawicki and I have had the pleasure of running the candy store. Running the candy store is a two-person job, and you both will be exempt from the 3 assigned duties per year. If you would like more information about the funnest job at camp, please feel free to contact me on Facebook or in person at camp. Thanks ~ Karin Gunderson
