In response to ongoing challenges with people parking at their cottages, the District Council has updated the parking policy to include specific timing and fines.  Please see the revised section from the Rules and Regulations (updated 6/25/22) below:

Parking near cottages is prohibited.  Cottage owners are permitted to load or unload from their vehicles from service roads only for no more than 15 minutes, but ALL vehicles MUST be parked in a designated parking lot as indicated on the Camp map except for the Building and Grounds Committee Chairperson during active work hours and ongoing Camp projects.  On an annual basis, parking violators will receive a verbal warning for the first infraction, a written warning for the second infraction, a $100 fine for the third infraction, and a $200 fine per infraction thereafter.  Continued violation of the parking policy may be subject to additional action by the Camp Committee and/or the Illinois District Council. CAMP - Camp is in full swing, and we hope you are enjoying your time out here.  With the start of Camp though we need to review a few of the rules; Minors in Camp and use of Rider Mowers. From the Rules and Regulations booklet and Illinoisturners.org website - Minors - Minors under the age of eighteen(18) are not allowed to occupy any cottage or building on Turner Camp property unless a responsible member is staying with them.
A legal guardian, or designated adult must remain on campgrounds while the child participates in any program activity or event.  Arrangements must be made with the camper should the supervising adult change.
Staff must be notified of the designated adult should it be different from the adult on the registration paperwork. To notify, please complete the Google Form by clicking https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfAHwyc5G0lZZEOu9LXQmJsnXvhUq7bvL4lQ5KgK6Axe_NW6g/viewform?usp=sf_link or the link located at illinoisturners.org.
This form must be completed each time there is a change to the designated adult - failure to do so may result in exclusion from program activities.
Rider Mowers - Riding mowers are approved for grass/general maintenance at and around your cottage.  Riding mowers are NOT approved as a mode of transportation around Turner Camp.  If you are significantly limited in your ability to get around Camp, then please contact the Turner Camp Committee via This email address is being protected from spambots. Introducing two more of the Restaurant Team members who help make things happen.
Mary Becker - Mary is married to Dick Becker, comes from the Mutert clan, and is a lifelong Turner.  Mary is instrumental in coordinating the set up of the serving area for the Fish Fru every Friday and getting thye serving volunteers set up as they come on board.  She also puts the pots, pans, and utensils away after each meal and cleans up the kitchen area to keep us health department inspection ready.  Finally, she works with the folks holding special events like parties, celebrations, and Memorials to help ensure the events go smoothly.  Rumor has it she ran the kitchen sanitation program at Annapolis.  She runs a tight ship!  Get that lady a coffee!

Timmy Zbinden - Timmy is married to Judy Zbinden and is another lifelong Turner.  In fact, almost every week we hear another story about what went on in his family cottage down by the river.  Timmy plays the key role of the gofer on Friday Nights.  He goes for food, he goes for supplies, and he goes for anything.  He went missing from camp a while in the 70s and 80s.  Rumor has it he spent time in a hippie commune and traveled the  country in an old bread truck.  When he returned to camp after sowing his wild oats, he joined the Fish Fry Crew.  Get that man an edible!
    Thanks, Scott

RECYCLING - We want to update everyone on the recycling capabilities at Camp.  The service we use has tightened their enforcement of recycling vs commingled trash in the recycling bins.  As a result, our recycling bins were not being emptied and yet Camp was being charged every time they came out to collect. This created both a sanitary challenge as well as a costly activity, that resulted in our recycling bins overflowing.  The decision for this Summer was to remove the recycling bins and replace them with regular trash bins.  We still support recycling and would ask you to bring your recyclables home at the end of the weekend or utilize one of the recycling centers around Camp (eg. Algonquin Township).  We appreciate your thoughts on this issue (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) but we don't have the manpower to monitor the recycling bins to ensure commingled trash doesn't go into them.  Cory Litza - Cottage Owners President

CAMP COMMITTEE INFORMATION - Please check the weekly bulletins for upcoming events as well as the illinoisturners.org website.  Both resources capture; calendar, useful information and updates to activities and events happening in and around Camp.  We would also suggest you send suggestions and concerns to the Camp email  (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to ensure your input is heard.  You will find posters around Camp with this email information and a QR code that you can scan with your phone, and it will take you directly to the email location. This email is monitored daily and responses back within 72 hours are expected.  Finally, we all need to do our part to keep our Turner Camp community safe.  If you are feeling any symptoms, even minor, please avoid all the public spaces at Camp (Raths, bathrooms, Pool, etc).  We are trying to keep Camp open in a safe and responsible manner and it is up to all of us to do our part to keep each other safe. If you are unable to fill one of your assigned duties due to COVID symptoms or a positive test, send your specific information to the email  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will work to backfill your position.

Excitement for another Summer at Camp is building and with that comes opportunities for us to support our favorite programs; Tweenies, Juniors, Art Studio, Ladies Auxiliary, Tuna etc. One particular fundraiser that has done well in the past is clothing/towels/bags using the Turner emblem or ITC logo. The Turner emblem and ITC logo have been reserved for the Youth Committee and have supported specific programs they are funding for Camp's children. To maximize your efforts and minimize overlap, please bring your fundraising ideas to the next Camp Committee meeting or send them into This email address is being protected from spambots. We've switched from filets to ribeye's for the steak dinner.
Keep in mind we are experiencing the supply issues the rest of the world is facing.  So, if things aren't exactly as you remember them, it is likely due to that.
Finally, let's introduce you to the Restaurant & Fish Fry team.  We'll do a couple each week and start with the newest.
Donna Litza - a lifelong Turner who grew up in Turner Camp.  She has been involved in the Restaurant for years, ably assisting her mother and longtime restaurant chairperson Barb Gebhart, AKA Sarge.  Donna has captained many meals over the years and this year took on the menu planning and scheduling for the restaurant to get us ready for the season.  She also provided the lunch meals for the work days, is helping with the weekly shopping, and is leading some Sunday evening meals.  We appreciate Donna's help and experience.  Get her a Chardonnay!
Randy Gunderson - has been a Turner for around 10+ years.  His wife Karin has been running the Candy Store with Donna Sawicki for years.  Us guys felt bad for Randy sitting at the bar on Friday's all by his lonesome.  So, we invited him to help us out on Fridays when we had an absence.  Then last year he became a full-time member of the team when Jim Gerstbrein went down in Spring Training with an injury.  Randy worked out so well he's become an integral part of the team, allowing Tom Webb to devote his energies to making Saturday nights great again.  His union steward Randy Roe predicts he won't be a journeyman fry guy for long.  We appreciate Randy's help and easy-going personality.  Get that man a Millers!
    Thanks, Scott

YOUTH - Hello again, Turners! This first week of the Youth Program went amazingly. On the field this week, the campers practiced “Ultimate Games,” such as Ultimate Frisbee, and the staff got to meet all the new campers coming in from Tiny Tots. They have adapted well and are doing great in Program so far! The Campers of the Week for Week 1 are Delaney Flowers and Talyn Reeves! They did great by participating, having positive attitudes, and listening well to directions. We’re so proud of them!
The pool opened on Thursday, June 9th, and we got to have lessons for two days, despite the rain! The campers loved being in the water again after all this time. The Beginners Swimmer of the Week was Weston Becker for staying in the water and listening to directions. The Advanced Beginners Swimmer of the Week was Frankie for spaying attention while the instructors were speaking. The Intermediates Swimmer of the Week was Quinn Sandine for always trying to improve. The Swimmers Swimmer of the Week was Sam Moore for keeping a good attitude and swimming the whole time. Staff appreciates these hard-working campers!
Tiny Tots this week went great! The Tiny Tot Campers of the Week are Vini Bialk and Beatriz Adams! They had fun making crafts, doing gymnastics, and participating in swimming lessons, even when the water was cold! We have such a great group of little ones this year.
Next week is Rock Concert Week, which means we will have our annual Rock Concert after awards at 7 PM on Friday, June 17th! We can’t wait to see what the campers come up with. Thank you all for a great start to our summer!

Recycling - Welcome back everyone! How nice is it to be back in our camp even if it is only mostly open??!! Let’s hope we never see another year from hell like we did last year. Like everything else the recycling program took a hit but survived because you made it survive. Thank you so much! We mean that.
We have been working on recouping and revamping the program and this is where it’s at. There are still the two large recycling dumpsters, one in the large parking lot the other directly behind the Rathskeller. There is a small can in the drink/ food area at the pool also. At the Rathskeller, inside there are 3 blue cans clearly marked with the recycling logo and with a lid on them that will only accept cans and bottles. There are the same outside the Raths, just not with blue cans. This is still a work in progress and will continue to improve and evolve and the year goes on. Thanks for your help with this. Building and Grounds

Pool Tags - There will be no pool tags this year, and the pool will be restricted to members and their immediate family.  Handicapped parking privileges – DOES NOT entitle anyone to park their vehicles next to the cottage 24/7!  Able individuals should be parking the vehicles in the lots when not using the vehicles.
Golf cart privileges - MUST be approved by the Camp Committee.  You
will need to submit a formal request to the Camp Committee for approval. Thank you, Art
Auxiliary card party - July 17th at the Dining Hall, 7:30 P.M.  Tickets are $2.  Due to the close down, there was no Card Party last year.  We hope that you will participate with donations and attendance this year.  Funds are necessary for the upkeep of the building.  The house is also available for rental at $50. Thanks, Ann

Pool Memorial Fundraiser - A BIG thank you to all who supported the Memorial Weekend fundraiser for our Pool.  We raised $1,604.30.  Of course, we couldn’t have done it without volunteer help in the kitchen and bar. Thank you, all volunteers.  See you next year same time, same place!! Babie Zweifel

Turner Ladies - We are hoping to begin using the Ladies Clubhouse again. It is a beautiful, old building that has not seen much use in the past years. It is our hope to have it open for game days starting Tuesday, June 22nd from 10:00 AM until?  Bring your own group and game or come alone and join in with others.  Everyone is welcome. Come once or every week as it suits your schedule. We are suggesting a voluntary donation of $3.00 for each visit to help defray the cost of utilities, with any surplus being donated to the Clubhouse at the end of the season. Water and wine will be available for purchase. Wine $3 per glass and $1 for bottled water.  Cash only, we will not be excepting any Turner coupons. If you have any questions contact Bev Hussar, Ann Litza o Barbie Zweifel

Brief Camp Update: the Camp Committee met today however the IDPH has not issued detailed Phase 4 guidelines yet for bars, restaurants, and pools so we will be meeting Sunday June 28 to review (if they've been issued) and determine what, if anything makes sense.
The big parking lot has been a huge issue. The extremely wet May, along with changing underground springs has created a quagmire in some sections. B&G did some research in the swampy areas and found that decades ago when the big parking lot was created (or probably enlarged), a lot of ash was used to fill in the low areas. The ash was laid on top of the original clay, which results in the perfect mushy swamp when water accumulates. B&G has a plan to remove and replace the ash with appropriate material over the rest of the summer.
It has been noted that many of the youth are out enjoying camp, which is awesome. However parents need to keep tabs on their kids to avoid them getting into things or worse yet getting hurt.
Watch this spot for a further update hopefully next weekend.
Gut Heil!  (Originally posted on the Facebook pages June 20, 2020)
The camp committee will be meeting this Sunday morning to consider what activities can be held in some way under Phase 4 during the remainder of the season.  An update will be provided on the Facebook pages, the District website, and the next bulletin. Thank you, Scott Lau

Note from Art Stevenson - There will be updated information after the camp meeting this weekend
Thank you Chuck Daily donated an American flag that we will use for the A-field and the
Flagpole at the main entrance is getting an overhaul
IT HAS BEEN REPORTED THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE PARKING NEXT TO THEIR COTTAGES AND DRIVING OVER THE ITC PROPERTY WHICH IS NOT PERMITTED.

Pool – Still working to repair things at the pool.  Hoping to open early July.  Thank you, Dave Z

BIG THANK YOU: To ALL of the Turners who were able to volunteer their time for the clean-up weekends to help kick off the season. There is no shortage of chores and duties that will always need to be done around camp. Volunteerism is always greatly appreciated, and please keep in mind that sometimes there are cottage owners who might need some assistance with the assigned duties to their cottages. Thanks, Art Stevenson

The following volunteers made our Memorial Weekend possible:
    1. All the Texas Hold’em players.
Dave Zweifel for really good Mostaccoli dinner and bar tending.
Sue Kniesley cashier. Nick Barts for bar tending long hours.
Ken and Jean Hirsch for Chicago Hot Dogs lunch with Sue Potthast and Ann Trankle as helpers. And all the Turners that donated to the Memorial Swimming Pool Fund. Total profits will be reported as soon as possible.
Our pool is 40 years old this year.  We should be ready for plan B. Thank you ALL. Barbie Zweifel
    2. A HUGE thank you to Curt Litza, Cory Litza, Danny Litza and Don Trunnell for building the roof on small shed at the Pool for Tiny Tot gymnastic equipment. You guys ROCK.

Restaurant – This Friday don’t miss the Fried Walleye Special.  Thanks Sue Knisley & crew for a great prime rib dinner!  Other upcoming fine culinary opportunities
Saturday June 30 – Pig Roast at the Family Fest
Wednesday July 4 – Tweenie Pancake Breakfast
Friday July 6 – Guiness Beef Brisket
Saturday July 7 – Laura & Marlana Turkey Dinner
Entertainment – we have entertainment lined up for every Friday this summer.  Here’s the next couple of weeks
This Friday – Just Friends Acoustic Duo
July 6 – Frank Sinatra & the sounds of the 50s and 60s
July 13 – Vaguely Familiar Acoustic Duo
Volunteer Duties – just a reminder that fulfilling your duties is important to the functioning of camp and our offerings.  Your three duties are a key obligation of being a cottage owner.  If something comes up it is your responsibility to switch with someone or find a suitable replacement.  When duties are missed committee chairs often have to step in to keep things going.  Those folks are already giving generously of their time and really don’t want to do another duty.  A missed duty will result in a $250 fine.  Remember to dress suitably for your duties.  Closed toed shoes and t-shirts are recommended for kitchen duties.
Decks, sheds, cottage construction – just a reminder to contact Howard Boress or Kurt Potthast to have Buildings & Grounds review and approve all project plans and timing of the project.

Cottages for bid – the Illinois District has two cottages up for bid.  To be eligible to own a cottage you must have been a member of a Turner society for at least one year by the time the bids are opened on July 23rd at the next District Council meeting.  Submit your bid in a sealed envelope with a check for your full bid amount, which must be the minimum bid of $1,5000 or more.  Include how many years you have been a member and to which Society you belong.  Bids will be opened and read at the July 23rd District Council meeting.  Should you have a winning bid you may take possession immediately and you will have all the rights and privileges (pool tags, youth program, coupon book, etc.) for the remainder of the 2018 season.
Cottage 26 – one room cottage in Mosquito Hollow
Cottage 52 – one room cottage in Aurora Lane
Cottage Reclamation Opportunity – the District is also in possession of cottage 237, which is in severe disrepair.  It is located just past the Sugar Bowl below the service road where the road bends.  There is a picture of this cottage next to the definition of “Fixer Upper” in the dictionary.  Since this cottage will require a significant upgrade investment The District is not asking for any bid.  It is a larger footprint cottage and we are looking for someone who is handy and willing to bring it back to life.  If you are interested please see Howard Boress & Kurt Potthast of Buildings & Grounds.  The county building codes are very strict with what can and can’t be done and they’ll help you review the possibilities.  Once you come up with a plan approved by Buildings & Grounds the Council will review and approve.  As a side note, this is why the Camp Committee periodically does walk-throughs of camp and details repairs/work for cottages if they need it.  This one got away from us and we’re trying to make sure cottages don’t get to the point of having to be torn down.
Communication – Jim Roth is leading a committee to develop ideas to improve communicate at camp.  If you are interested in serving on this committee please see Jim Roth or email him at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Last Farewell for Johnny and Ruth Blaser – Friday evening June 29th.
We will meet at the Rathskeller at 7:15 pm with a small group (+-10 people) from the Swiss Club Chicago and the Swiss Benevolent Society to pay or last respect to Johnny and Ruth Blaser. Perhaps there are people from the Turner Camp who remember the Blaser’s; you are very welcome to join us and share stories you may have.  We will eat something at the Raths and by 8:30pm drive over to the other parking lot and walk down to the “Blaser Cottage”.  Thanks again to Scott Lau who graciously showed me where the cottage is and welcomed us to hold the ceremony.  It was Johnny and Ruth’s last wish to have their final resting place in the Fox River by their cottage.  We will place their earthurns at sunset into the Fox River while Elise Paschen will read a poem.  Elise is a friend of the family to whom Ruth was the nanny when Elise was a child.  For questions please feel free to send Elke Sujdak an email at:  This email address is being protected from spambots.      Welcome Back!  The Camp Committee has a great season planned for you.  Here is a summary of a few major projects that have been completed since last season.

A Field Bathrooms have been remodeled and spruced up.

A well was dug and installed for the A Field Bathroom and the water spigots in that area of camp.  One more well is planned for the big parking lot after this season which will supply the Cicero Bathroom and water spigots in that area of camp.

The new playground equipment was purchased and installed and is already a hit with the Turner kids!  Big thanks to Amy Oatey for seeing a need and raising funds toward a solution with the Turner Trot.  We are also very blessed to have received significant donations from National Endowment & Trust Fund, the ATNY Fund of New York Turners, Bocci Ball, and Tuna.  Look for the dedication coming on Founders Day!

The new Froggy sprinkler is being installed in the baby pool to help keep future Turner Kids cool in the summer.

Restaurant – the Fish Frys have begun!  We have a number of menu changes we think you’ll like.  For the Fish Fry we’ve added baked Salmon to the every Friday menu.  For Friday and Saturday grill we’ve added a new healthy choice Turkey Burger, plain or with cheese.  We’ve also added a few new appetizers, Cheese Curds, Cheddar Bacon Jalapeno Poppers, and Honey Sricha Cheese Sticks.  This Friday don’t miss Lydia Hodor’s special, Polish Kielbasa, Pierogies, and Kapusta.  Next week’s special is Shrimp DeJonghe.  Donna Litza is making Sunday dinner great again!  This Sunday, June 10, Donna, Cheryl and their crew are serving BLTs or TLTs and the usual grill items from 530p-7p.

The Prime Rib dinner is June 23rd.  We will be taking pre-sale orders at the Fish Fry June 15 & 22 for $15/dinner.  At the door will be $18 and we will not be able to guarantee a dinner.

Entertainment – we have entertainment lined up for almost every Friday this summer.  Here’s the next couple of weeks:

    Vocalist Karen Nichols

    Elvis & Johnny Cash Impersonators

Shout Outs – Turner Camp continues to operate and get better due to the hard work and efforts of many volunteers.  Here are just a few examples:

Dave Williams & Dave Zweifel for coordinating and putting in many personal hours in getting the pool complex cleaned and ready to open.  Anyone who has ever pitched in on pool clean up day knows what a dirty, icky job it is to clean the pool.  These two guys helped prep and coordinate the crew and have been spending hours painting and doing the little things that add up to big time to get the pool ready to fill.

Howard Boress & the Buildings & Grounds crew for all the site prep work, installation expertise, and manual labor in getting the new playground equipment installed.  While at the same time continuing the ongoing battle cleaning up trees!

Mary Becker for coordinating the cleaning and prep of the Rathskeller & Dining Hall complex.  We had a lot of volunteers for work days but Mary provided the direction and organization to bring it all together.  She is also does a lot of behind the scenes dirty work to help keep us health department compliant each week.
